Establishing an independent translational research centre (TRC) in Austria.
Research institutions in the life sciences sector for technology transfer
Austria Wirtschaftsservice (aws) supports initiatives in technology transfer, including in the field of life sciences.
With funds from the Austrian Foundation for Research, Technology and Development (NFTE) and the Austrian Federal Ministry for Labour and Economy (BMAW), aws participates in the KHAN-I-Fonds (KHAN Technology Transfer Fund I GmbH & Co. KG), a European translational research fund established in 2019 for drug candidate projects that focus on Austria and Germany (additional investors are the European Investment Fund and the Max Planck Foundation).
wings4innovation GmbH (w4i) is an Austrian subsidiary of the KHAN-I fund and aims to transfer promising ideas from Austrian basic research into commercially viable product candidates for diseases with high unmet medical need.
As a so-called Translational Research Center (TRC), w4i is the central contact and intermediary for professional translational research in the biomedical field. w4i identifies suitable Austrian project ideas and facilitates their joint development with the project sponsors and commercialization with the help of funds from the KHAN-I Fund. For this purpose, a framework agreement has been concluded with 19 Austrian research institutions.
